3rd Generation Portraits

When I first spoke with Shelley about what type of portraits she wanted us to create she told me her primary goal was to recreate a photo. Ok, what sort of photo are we recreating I wondered? She went on to tell me that her husband, Parker had a photo taken when he was just a baby that was of particular importance. Lots of photos of babies are important so I was definitely curious. She continued, this photo of Parker that she wanted us to recreate of her son was actually a recreation itself. Parker’s photo was a recreation of a photo of his father when he was a baby. I was in!

Are we the best portrait studio for you?

Before booking her session I asked Shelley to send me Parker’s photo to ensure it was a photo that would fit our particular style of portrait photography. When any client inquires about booking with us we always discuss their preferred portrait style; magazine-style, contemporary studio portraits is what we do and we have inquiries about photoshoots in parks or in homes we have no problem sending those people to other photographers. After confirming with Shelley that we were the right fit we booked her portrait session.

3 generations, 1 Outfit

As wonderful as creating this portrait of Shelley’s son, William, would be it actually gets better. In each of the photos of Parker and his father were wearing the same outfit. Not similar looking outfits or even replicas but the very same outfit. And we would be using this outfit to photograph William.

Styling mom for the photoshoot

After meeting for the styling consultation Shelley decided to go to Chloe Dao Boutique to pick out a dress for the photoshoot. Shelley and Parker aren’t overly fashion oriented, most of their wardrobe was business attire so having the ability to pick something out was the best option.

She wanted something a little dressier but nothing too dramatic. She was able to find several options at Chloe’s and I love the one she selected. It’s supremely important to dress in something you’re comfortable in and we’re always happy to send people to Chloe Dao Boutique

The Photoshoot

On the day of the shoot Shelley came in excited and yet relaxed, which was great because no photoshoot goes well if mom is stressed or anxious. She came in an hour before Parker and William were to arrive so that we could do her hair and makeup. The outfit for the photo we were recreating was quite old so we wanted to get the shot and get William changed into a different outfit for the family photos. Luckily William was wonderful during the shoot and we were able to get the shot we wanted quickly.

I know I always say this, and it is always true but I really was honored to have been asked to be a part of this family tradition. I hope that one day William gets the opportunity that Parker had in seeing his own son photographed for this tradition.
